Juneteenth commemorates the day in June 19, 1865, when enslaved African-Americans were freed in Galveston, Texas. The Galveston, Texas event was more than two years later after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth became an official federal holiday in 2021. The name "Juneteenth" references the date of the holiday, combining the words "June" and "nineteenth". This inaugural celebration will include a guest speaker, live performances, food, informational booths and a concert from Biscuits and Gravy Live. Parking and attendance is FREE.
